An Abuse Tactic
In a violating and abusive move, sometimes abusers will give drugs to an intimate partner without their knowledge. How often does this happen? This could be the case for Jeff and Hannah. Peris narrates the drama that unfolds after 12-hours of being offline.
Jeff! I shouted. Even without getting to hear him, I rushed to where my sister was. Jeff never seemed to be worried at all. He looked so zombie with hangover written all over him.  I couldn’t but imagine the worst. I didn’t know whom to blame. The house looked messy. More like a crack house. Myriads of thoughts running my mind on what in this world was going on. First things first, I decided to see if my sister could get up. Hanna! Hanna! I helplessly called her.
I had suspected Jeff had no good intention towards my sister. I was right. But how could he do this? What was his intention? Wasn’t he the same guy who promised us that he was going to take care of Hanna? Together with her unborn child? I know Hanna wasn’t even ready for all this. Jeff just lay dead on the couch scrolling his phone. I felt like he knew his mission was complete. My options were limited. Calling my folks was not an option. It would open a whole pandora box. If I decided to involve the police, my sister would be murky waters, especially considering it would drag in our folks. The case would take a different turn. I would have to go solo on this. I gave her some water as she regained some consciousness. I was a bit happy. Hanna! You know how worried I was about you? What happened? I asked her.
I carried her and placed her on the bed. She was weak and still drowsy. I asked Jeff if I could get some milk. Jeff was hesitant. He just said that I would be adding more salt to the injury and that I should let Hanna relax. I could now join the dots now.  It was not an ordinary hangover. This is all what Jeff was intending to do. He wanted to get rid of the baby without any of us noticing before it’s too late.
Few hours later as we could wait for Hanna to be stable, I was now looking for a way to take her to the hospital just in case. This would have coated me no coin. She was below twenty-four so dad’s insurance was covering her still. I decided to take her to the hospital to just make sure everything would end up well.
As soon as we got to Avenus Hospital, which was a stone throw distance from Jeffs’s place. Before anything else, the doctor took her and I was told to wait outside. That is when I met Angie, my old school mate back in high school. We started having some conversation reminiscing about our days back then. A nurse called me and, on her face, not everything seemed to be okay.

“Are you close to this lady?” Nurse asked me. I was tensed. I told the nurse that I was her sister. She asked me if we could have a talk and give her some details that she would need.
I have good news and bad news regarding your sister. I don’t know where I should start. But, don’t panic, everything will be okay.
