Jane Wanjiru Kagira is one of the many Kenyans who have managed to make their dreams a reality. For the love of Kenyan cuisine, Kagira has managed to give Kenyans and Americans living in the USA a taste of Kenyan food.
Kagira is the owner of Safari Njema Restaurant, a hotel based in Seattle, Washington, that serves East African meals. It is in Safari Njema hotel that you will find Kenyan cuisines such as Fish (Tilapia), Goat, Chicken, and Beef.
The hotel has been in existence for over 7 years.
“My restaurant is known for the perfect Kenyan food that we cook here. Our signature is the fish and the goat, and everything is cooked on order. So when you come to the Safari restaurant, you are willing to wait because you are getting home food, but cooked away from home,” Wanjiru said.
She told Chamwada that most people around are familiar with Kenyan food.

“Wazungus come here also and they eat Ugali and Mukimo. I think it is because of the University of Washington. They have two clinics, one in Kisumu and another in Nairobi. They bring people here and there are so many that are familiar with Kenyan food and they come here all the time,” she says.
Most people have found Safari Njema a good place to remind them of where they came from.
“It is not every day that I walk into a restaurant and I am able to order matumbo, sukuma wiki. It connects me to Kenya,” Daniel Karuga, a resident of Seattle told Chamwada.
