Earlier today, president william Ruto and Nairobi governor Johnson Sakaja introduced feeding program for children in primary schools. During his visit in one of Nairobi’s school, president Ruto said that this program is meant to boost performance and enrollment of learners in schools.
In a lengthy Facebook and twitter post, he wrote:
School feeding is a safety net for vulnerable households. It is a smart investment that makes a huge difference to the lives of our children. We will keep strengthening our partnership with counties and other stakeholders for the success of such programmes to boost enrollment and learners’ performance.
We will be deliberate and focused in ensuring the successful implementation of programme. The government will increase the number of children benefitting from the programme from the current 1.6 million to four million.
On the other hand, Hon. Sakaja coulnd not hide his excitement. He thanked the president for introducing the program that would see thousands of pupils getting the food. In his facebook post, he wrote:
Elated at the groundbreaking our 10 Central Kitchens for our school feeding program.
From the first day of Third Term this year, 250,000 children will have a hot meal everyday at school. Lazima iWork.
Thank you President William Samoei Ruto for directing the Ministry to support and to our partners Food for Education and Child Investment Fund Foundation.
