New Train Services for Kisumu and Nanyuki

Kenya Railways has implemented midweek train services to Kisumu and Nanyuki in anticipation of the upcoming festive season.

In an announcement released on Friday, the organization stated that the midweek train to Kisumu will now operate on both Wednesdays and Thursdays, in addition to the regular Friday and Sunday schedule. Departing from Nairobi Station at 6:30 pm on Wednesdays, the midweek train provides an alternative travel option for passengers heading to Kisumu. Conversely, those traveling from Kisumu to Nairobi can catch the midweek train on Thursdays at 6:30 pm from the Kisumu Station.

For this additional service, economy tickets are priced at Ksh600, while first-class tickets are available at Ksh2,000.

In the case of Nanyuki, trains departing from Nairobi will run on Tuesdays and Fridays, leaving the Nairobi station at 9 am. Return journeys from Nanyuki to Nairobi are scheduled for Wednesdays and Sundays, departing at 9 am from the Nanyuki Station. First-class tickets for this route are priced at Ksh1,000, with economy class tickets costing Ksh200.

Kenya Railways attributed the introduction of these midweek services to the expected surge in travel during the Christmas and New Year celebrations. However, the corporation did not specify the duration of the midweek services.

Train travel is favored by some Kenyans during the festive season due to its cost-effectiveness compared to buses, which tend to charge higher fares. It’s worth noting that while trains are more economically friendly, they generally require a longer travel time compared to buses and planes.
