Police investigators from the Economic and Commercial Crimes Unit, along with Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) officers, carried out a successful raid on a liquor store on Kirinyaga Road in Nairobi on Wednesday morning.
During the operation, 4,920 bottles, each of 250ml, containing fake alcoholic beverages were seized. These counterfeit drinks, featuring various brands, are estimated to be worth Sh984,000 in the market.
The confiscated items were transported to a secure KRA warehouse, and a seizure notice was issued to the individual suspected of being involved in the illegal liquor trade.
This recent seizure is a part of the ongoing and intensified crackdown named Operation Uchumi, which aims to combat economic crimes and uphold the integrity of commercial activities.
The combined team of investigators is actively looking into the case to determine the source and distribution network of the counterfeit drinks. Their goal is to dismantle any illegal operations that contribute to the spread of fraudulent goods in the market.
As the crackdown continues, more updates on the investigation are anticipated.
