On March 8, 2023, the Sovereign Hotel in Kisumu, which rose to popularity by entertaining dignitaries including politicians and government officials, will be auctioned off. The property was placed up for auction, according to a notice from Colinet Auctioneers, to recoup unspecified millions of shillings that the hotel’s directors had failed on.
It consists of a triple-story building, a double-story hotel annex that is semi-detached, a double-story annex that is detached, and a terraced swimming pool.
“We will sell the following properties, together with buildings and improvements standing and erected thereon, at auction under instructions received from our client,” the auction notice stated.
The hotel also includes a conference room, a bar and restaurant, a swimming pool, three apartments, 26 standard rooms, and three premium rooms. The hotel, which is situated on 0.8 acres of land, provides its patrons with spa, steam room, and massage room facilities.
The detached building has a view of the Impala Wildlife Sanctuary and is close to Lake Victoria.
Cuisine
The hotel was established in 2013, and according to its official website, it specializes in continental food, Indian cuisine, Japanese sushi, and teppanyaki.
Single hotel rooms cost Ksh17,047 per night with a 15 percent discount off the going rate, while double rooms cost Ksh19,573 per night.
A guest must pay Ksh21,467 for an executive room and Ksh17,047 for an apartment suite.
“Our massage room offers massage and beauty treatment choices range from deep tissue massage to hot-stone massage, from facials to pedicures, and more,” Sovereign hotel stated on their website.
Moreover, the hotel hosts various events, including informal events like wedding parties, birthday parties, and cocktails.

For formal events, meetings, and conferences, the hotel has three large conference rooms for hire.
Following its auction notice, the 5-star hotel opened its partly sheltered swimming pool for Kisumu residents on the weekends.
