Kenya Wildlife Service to increase park entrance fees next year

The Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) intends to increase park entry fees by more than quadruple to Sh2,000 starting in January 2024, a move that will force travellers to dig even deeper into their wallets.

According to a cost schedule that is now available for public comment, parks that are popular with city visitors, like Nairobi National Park, will charge the highest entry fee.

Adults from the East African Community (EAC) and local residents will now pay Sh2,000 instead of Sh430 to enter the park during the high season, which runs from July to March.

Adults travelling from other parts of Africa and outside will pay $50 (Sh7,167) and $100 (Sh14,335) during the peak season, according to the suggested rates.

The organisation would charge EAC and resident adults Sh2,000 to access Nairobi National Park during the low season, which runs from April to June.

Children pay Sh215, while adults remaining in the country are charged Sh430 by the wildlife custodian.

Children and students enter the park for $22 (Sh3,153), while non-resident adults pay $43 (6,164).

It will charge EAC and resident adults Sh1,000 during the peak season at top amenities Amboseli and Lake Nakuru National Park.

Adults travelling from other parts of Africa and abroad will pay $50 (Sh7,167) and $100 (Sh14,335), respectively.
