Kenya and Eritrea agrees to abolish Visa requirements

Kenya and Eritrea have come to an agreement to abolish visa requirements for their respective citizens. This move was put in order to enhance regional integration.

President Ruto said that the move will strengthen bilateral relations and boost people-to-people ties.

According to Nation, resolution was reached during a meeting between President William Ruto and his Eritrean counterpart Isaias Afwerki, who also agreed to collaborate in the African Union “in the spirit of Pan-Africanism.”

The two countries also pledged to collaborate and consult on regional integration and protect regional peace, security, and development in the Horn of Africa.

“The two leaders noted the need for firm and inspired leadership in the region with the view of ensuring and guaranteeing security in the region,” said President Isaias spokesperson.

“We will keep working together to promote regional trade and investment,” explained President Ruto during the talks held on Friday, December 10nth in Asmara.

Consequently, before the agreement, the removal of visa restrictions, the Kenyan visa to Eritreans was for 90 days.President Ruto paid a two-day state visit to Eritrea after being invited by President Isaias.

 

Aden Duale, the Defence Cabinet Secretary, Deputy Chief of Staff Josphat Nanok, and Senators Jackson Mandago and Aaron Cheruiyot were among the delegates accompanying him.
