Today, the Kenya Airports Authority (KAA), in collaboration with Metrotrans East Africa Limited and Super Metro Limited, unveiled cutting-edge electric buses serving new routes from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) to key destinations in Nairobi. These routes are now served by state-of-the-art 7th generation electric commuter buses, underscoring our commitment to innovation, eco-friendly transportation, and enhanced passenger services.
Mr. Mohamed Daghar, the Principal Secretary of the State Department for Transport, emphasized the numerous advantages of these electric buses, including their environmental benefits, cost-effectiveness, and quiet operations, creating a serene atmosphere for passengers and airport staff alike.
Hon. Caleb Kositany, KAA Board Chairman, proudly shared our achievement of Level 2 Airport Carbon Accreditation from ACI for four major airports, reflecting our strong dedication to carbon reduction and environmental sustainability. As part of our green initiatives, KAA staff are actively engaged in a tree-planting campaign, contributing to the national goal of planting 2 billion trees.
The JKIA Airport Manager highlighted that the introduction of these electric buses signifies a significant step toward our objectives of environmental stewardship and providing a seamless, eco-friendly travel experience.
These new buses also feature enhanced accessibility options, including wheelchair ramps, ensuring that our services are inclusive and accessible to all.
