Former Kenya Sevens Star Chef Dennis Ombachi named Africa’s best TikTok Content creator

Former Kenya Sevens star Dennis Ombachi was named Africa’s best TikTok Content creator of 2022 on Saturday night.

In a colourful ceremony held in Nairobi’s Movenpick Hotel on Saturday, January 14, 2023, Ombachi was contesting amongst several other nominees to clinch the coveted award.

According to the organisers, the nominees were drawn from Southern, Western, and Eastern Africa, with each of the mentioned regions fronting 30 nominees.

Ombachi, who was part of the Kenya squad that graced the 2016 Olympic Games staged in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, dedicated the award to his fellow citizens.

“I already dedicated this to my kids and partners, but this is for Kenya. Thank you Tik Tok and everyone who voted,” he ended.

His last-minute try against Zimbabwe helped Kenya stun the latter 21-17 and qualify for the Olympic Games for the first time.

Ombachi took some time off from rugby due to a number of reasons including depression and ventured into the hospitality industry – he went on to become one of the best chefs in the country.

Famous BBC Sports journalist Michelle Katami was among the people who commended the former Shujaa flanker for the achievement.

“Congratulations Ombachi for being awarded the TikTok Sub Saharan overall winner, he is the top creator. The roaming chef has a lot of influence across,” read her statement.
