The police and chiefs in Kajiado have been given a 14-day deadline to halt the drug and illegal brew issue or face being fired by Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. Gachagua claims that the authorities are aware of those who are selling illegal alcohol and drugs in the county, which he claims is endangering a generation of young people.
“Drugs and chiefs cannot exist in the same location. By May 14, 2023, you must report to my office that you have cleared drugs and illegal alcohol,” he said.
Speaking during the Principal Secretary of the State Department for Forestry Ephantus Kimotho’s homecoming and thanksgiving service in Ngong, Gachagua urged the assistant chiefs, chiefs, and OCSs to share lists of people selling drugs and illegal brews since doing so would help the strategy and speed up the operation.
However, Gachagua claimed that this was a President William Ruto directive that needed to be carried out quickly.

He added that no OCSs will be transferred but will instead be relieved of their duties and that the President is willing to send home 50% of the chiefs if they don’t follow this order.
“The President and I cannot sit back and watch as a whole generation is wiped out. Within 14 days, we will take action,” he said.
To address this, the Deputy President asked Joshua Nkanatha, County Commissioner of Kajiado County, to call a security meeting early the following week to plan ways to combat illegal alcohol and narcotics in the county.
