Mombasa, Coast of Kenya is one of those regions you will find various savory cooked cuisines. Nonetheless, the place has different cultures that give it a privilege to have all these different foods cooked in different styles.
However, all their food tells a lot about the coastal region’s culture. Here are foods you should never miss when you visit the coast.
Mbaazi za Nazi
One of the foods you will always miss after giving it a try is mbaazi za nazi. It is made of pigeon peas cooked in coconut milk. Additionally, mbaazi za nazi was introduced by Indians in the coastal region.
It goes well with chapati.
Pilau
There is always something about coastal pilau. They are not just like any other pilau. Consequently, pilau has different names; flaw, lulav, pilaf, Kuryish among other names.
It was first introduced by Persians.
Biryani
Biryani is cooked just like pilau except that biryani has no Tumeric. It mostly uses a combination of a boiled egg when served with chicken. Moreover, Biryani is simply a spiced rice you will mostly find in coastal restaurants.
Coconut rice
It looks like ordinary rice but it has a silk texture. It is prepared with coconut milk and coconut flakes.

Bhajia
If you visit the coast, one of the street foods that you will find besides the road is bhajia. They are potatoes dipped in gram flour and they are mostly served with Ukwaju. Moreover, Kenya is not where it originated from.
