ICT and Digital Economy CS Eliud Owalo on Sunday 4 December 2022 led the food distribution exercise in Siaya. In a statement, Owalo said that the food distribution is focused on the vulnerable and underprivileged.

“On behalf of President William Ruto, I have this morning flagged off the distribution of relief food to the residents of Siaya, at Awelo Open Air Grounds in Siaya Town,” he said. 

This followed a directive by President William Ruto to flag off phase two of the ongoing distribution of emergency relief food.  Currently, several parts of Kenya have been hit by food shortage and drought.

However, the National Drought Management Authority cited that the situation would get worse due to the failed rains. Recently, the government through the deputy president Rigathi Gachagua said that they will introduce a new paybill to send money for those Kenyans in need of food.
