Liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) refill prices for Kenyans in a few regions have now dropped below Ksh1,000 for the first time in more than a year.
Visiting several parts of Nairobi on Sunday, the 6kg cylinder was being sold for Ksh950 in a few neighbourhoods in Nairobi county
A 6kg cylinder costs Kshs1050 in Western and Nyanza, where the cost is higher due to geography, while a 13kg cylinder costs Ksh2,300.
According to a merchant, prices have gradually decreased over the past few months from highs of Ksh1,450 for a 6kg cylinder and Ksh3,500 for a 13kg cylinder.
The reduction of petrol taxes that went into force in July is blamed for the decline, which is believed to be between 20% and 30%.
Value Added Taxes (VAT) on petrol were eliminated by President William Ruto as part of his initiative to promote eco-friendly cooking. Additionally, he promised to reduce the price of an empty petrol cylinder to Ksh 300.
