Chinese restaurant on spot over violating anti-food waste law

A restaurant in the Sichuan province of China is under investigation by authorities for giving away a complimentary lunch to anyone who can finish 108 hot wonton dumplings.
If found in violation of the nation’s anti-food waste law, the proprietor of the eatery in Yibin City might be subject to a punishment of 10,000 yuan (US$1,400), according to CNN.

The restaurant advertised the contest on social media, giving a free supper and extra rewards for eating 108 chaoshou, according to the authorities.

A law was passed by the Chinese government two years ago to reduce uncontrolled food consumption and waste.
