Githeri with a nutty taste

Githeri is one of the main staple foods in Kenya and a personal favourite too. It is such a simple dish made out of beans and maize but so wholesome, comforting and filling. This recipe is a classic githeri with a slight twist, added peanut butter to give it that nutty taste and it just works so well. Trust me!


  1. 3 tbsp oil
  2. 1 large onion, chopped
  3. 1 cup tomatoes, chopped
  4. 1 tbsp Nuteez Crunchy Peanut Butter
  5. 1 + 1/4 cup water
  6. 500 gms Boiled Beans & Maize
  7. Salt to taste
  8. Chopped coriander leaves


Heat oil in a pot and add the onions. Cook until translucent then add the tomatoes and cook for 1 minute.

Add the peanut butter and 1 cup water then stir and let it Cook for 4-5 minutes.

Next, add the boiled maize and beans, salt to taste and 1/4 cup water, stir and cover the pot with a lid. Cook for 10-15 minutes.
